The FINANCIAL — “Our newest tennis collection is made using more sustainable dye technologies that allows color to be applied to garments earlier in the creation process – reducing the environmental impact of production by saving up to 60% of the water and energy traditionally used,” adidas notes.
In addition, the full apparel range has also been created with PRIMEBLUE – a high-performance recycled material made in part with Parley Ocean Plastic as part of our wider commitment to completely phase out the use of virgin polyesters by 2024, and continuing the tradition of adidas Tennis’ strong ties with sustainability. Continuing the season with silhouettes that blend style and performance, the bold color palette has been developed to help the world’s elite stand out on court whilst performing at their best, with reduced impact on the planet, according to adidas.
The bold visual look of the collection blends just four pigments – red, blue, black and white – to expertly craft the purple, blue and grey colors seen throughout the range, complemented by base tones of black and white. The layered materials make up the different shades to give the garments an iridescent look that appears to change color with every movement on court. The range is set to be worn by world-class players including Garbiñe Muguruza, Kristina Mladenovic and Dominic Thiem as they take to the world stage in Paris.
“WHAT YOU WEAR ON COURT HAS A SIGNIFICANT IMPACT ON YOUR GAME. FIT, FEEL, AND PERFORMANCE IS ESSENTIAL, BUT SUSTAINABILITY IS SOMETHING THAT IS OFTEN OVERLOOKED. WHAT GOES INTO CREATING CLOTHING IS SOMETHING I SPECIFICALLY LOOK AT FIRST WHEN CHOOSING MY TENNIS GEAR. ADIDAS’ NEW MORE SUSTAINABLE DYING TECHNOLOGIES IS A BIG STEP FORWARD IN IMPROVING THE OF SUSTAINABILITY OF TENNIS WEAR, WITHOUT COMPROMISING ON PERFORMANCE, WHATEVER THE CONDITIONS”, Garbiñe Muguruza, Elite Tennis Player says.
The collection introduces a new Bodysuit silhouette and includes the return of SS21 staples, the Sleeveless Shirt, Next Level shorts and Tennis Y-Dress. Alongside the performance apparel, adidas’ tennis footwear silhouettes have also been updated with the same purple and blue tones, tactically placed to highlight key technical details on the footwear and completing the head-to-toe iridescent look of the full collection.
Players including Kristina Mladenovic will wear the adizero Ubersonic 4, which brings the latest technologies to the court for uncompromising agility, enabling players to respond to a game that’s faster now than ever. The midsole features Lightstrike, which provides super-light cushioning for fast pace movements without compromising direct court feel. A woven mesh upper provides stability and support for lateral movements and changes of direction, and is layered on top of a breathable, comfortable knitted sock construction. The upper is made with PRIMEGREEN – a series of high-performance recycled materials, created from 50% recycled content, according to adidas.
To be worn by Dominic Thiem, the collection also features the updated adidas SoleCourt, featuring a TPU chassis, midfoot torsion bar, BOOST midsole, and 3D heel counter for maximum durability, stability, and comfort. The SoleCourt silhouette also features PRIMEBLUE.
