The FINANCIAL — New Zealand’s food-price index fell 1.2% in October from the previous month, the biggest slide since March 2013, government data showed on November 12, according to Nasdaq.
Fruit and vegetable prices dropped 5.2% from the September, driving down the index, Statistics New Zealand said. Fresh milk prices fell 5.7%.
Compared with the previous year, the index declined 0.5%, with lower grocery food prices the main factor dragging down the index.
The food-price index measures the rate of price changes for food and food services purchased by households. Statistics New Zealand visits shops across New Zealand to collect prices for the index and checks sizes of packaged goods, such as coffee, soft drinks and juices.
