The FINANCIAL — New Zealand’s food-price index in June rose 0.5% on month but fell 0.1% on the year, Statistics New Zealand said on July 13, according to Nasdaq.
“Higher food prices in June were influenced by seasonally higher prices for fresh fruit and vegetables,” said Matt Haigh, consumers price index delivery manager at Statistics New Zealand. “However, food prices fell 0.8% this month (on June 2014) after adjusting for seasonal increases for items such as tomatoes and lettuce.”
The food-price index measures the rate of price changes for food and food services purchased by households. Statistics New Zealand visits shops across New Zealand to collect prices for the index and checks sizes of packaged goods, such as coffee, soft drinks and juices.
