The FINANCIAL — New Zealand’s food-price index fell 0.3% in April versus March and rose 1% on the year, Statistics New Zealand said on May 13, according to Nasdaq.
“Less discounting on items such as biscuits, yogurt and sauces contributed to higher grocery prices. This was countered by lower prices for fruit and vegetables,” prices manager Chris Pike said.
The food-price index measures the rate of price changes for food and food services purchased by households. Statistics New Zealand visits shops across New Zealand to collect prices for the index and checks sizes of packaged goods, such as coffee, soft drinks and juices.
