The FINANCIAL — New Zealand’s food-price index rose 0.4% in May and rose 0.8% on the year, Statistics New Zealand said on June 12, according to Nasdaq.
“Higher food prices in May were influenced by seasonally higher prices for fresh vegetables,” prices manager Chris Pike said.
The food-price index measures the rate of price changes for food and food services purchased by households. Statistics New Zealand visits shops across New Zealand to collect prices for the index and checks sizes of packaged goods, such as coffee, soft drinks and juices.
