The FINANCIAL — NIB and the Swedish real estate company Hemsö Fastighets AB have signed an eight-year loan agreement of SEK 800 million (EUR 81 million) for the construction of the “Patienten” life science centre for ophthalmology in Solna, Sweden.
The Patienten building is part of the Scandinavian Life Science project, which aims to establish centres of excellence for Sweden’s growing life science cluster. The facility will be located in close proximity to the Nya Karolinska Hospital.
The main tenant of the Patienten facility will be the St. Erik Eye Hospital, currently one of the leading eye hospitals in Europe, according to NIB.

“The new ophthalmology centre is a cooperation between the health care, academia and business communities. The centre will provide new treatment options for patients, and will open up opportunities for researchers and support sector-specific knowledge transfer”, says Henrik Normann, NIB President & CEO.
The Patienten building will be certified according to the Silver level under the Swedish green building standard Miljöbyggnad, and is scheduled for completion in 2019.
