The FINANCIAL — Nino Javakhadze, the Deputy Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development, commented on the publication of the president of the American Chamber of Commerce in Georgia Michael Cowgill in the American political journalism newspaper The Hill.
According to Cowgill, it is very important that the economic reforms and business environment of Georgia are evaluated not only by the government but also by the independent parties, which is more then welcoming.
“In his article, Michael Cowgill gives the positive evaluation the implemented and on-going economic reforms implemented in Georgia and implemented economic reforms as well as the general trends of economic development. Positive evaluation is especially valuable when provided by the independent party. Positive economic trends is more then real in Georgia and this fact has been once again confirmed by the preliminary data for 2017, which was announced today and which illustrated the mean economic growth of 4.7% in 9 months and the 5% growth just for September” – Nino Javakhadze noted.
Javakhadze confirmed that the USA is the main strategic trade partner to Georgia and therefore, Georgian Government is consequently working on the further deepening of the trade and economic relations with the USA, according to Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia.
In his article “The new silk road: The US needs a free trade deal with Georgia” published in the American political journalism newspaper and website The Hill, the President of the American Chamber of Commerce in Georgia and the President and the co-founder of the Georgian American University, Michael Cowgill says that “Georgia, the small European country nestled along the shores of the Black Sea and astride Europe’s highest mountains, is one of the few unequivocal success stories in a region where America’s security and commercial interests are strong and growing”. He finds the basis and the driving force of the Georgia’s success are prudent policy, exports, tourism, investment and a commitment to becoming a regional hub for trade. Michael Cowgill specially highlights the Government of Georgia’s 4-point plan and notes that the modification of tax legislation and amendments made within the reforms will positively reflect at the business sector, serve to the efficient management system, accelerates the pace of the implementation of the critical infrastructure projects and the main target of investment will make education and the most demanding professions a main target.
The article also says that the next step in Georgia-USA relations is a Free Trade Agreement, which will strengthen Georgia’s security and prosperity and open up a new, dynamic path to American companies to Europe, the Middle East and the European Union.
