The FINANCIAL — Nissan Motor Co. (7201) on February 14 said it resumed operation at its factory on the outskirts of Cairo the day before, according to Nikkei.com.
The carmaker decided to restart production after Hosni Mubarak stepped down as president, helping to calm the unrest from antigovernment protests over the past few weeks.
Nissan suspended work at the plant on Jan. 30. Some of the employees who left Egypt after the protests broke out have now returned.
Nissan assembles three models at the factory, including the Sunny sedan and X-Trail sport utility vehicle, turning out roughly 10,000 cars per year. About 500 people work at the plant.
