The FINANCIAL — Nokia Networks has appointed Markus Borchert as Senior Vice President, Market Europe, effective March 31.
Borchert will be based in Munich, Germany. Prior to returning to Europe, he was President of Nokia Networks’ Greater China Region, according to Nokia.
The appointment is part of Nokia Networks’ recently announced new Customer Operations (CO) structure. With this, a revisited regional structure of seven markets becomes effective April 1, 2015. In his new role as head of this market, he will report to Ashish Chowdhary, Executive Vice President and Chief Business Officer, Nokia Networks.
Ashish Chowdhary said: “I am extremely pleased to have Markus in Europe with his drive, enthusiasm and customer focus. He has achieved a great track record in Greater China. I look forward to Markus driving our ambition to expand our business in Europe and build on the strong win momentum and customer satisfaction that we have seen in 2014 in Europe.”
Markus Borchert added: “It’s good to be back in Europe, there is a lot of work ahead of us. Europe is an innovation powerhouse in mobile communications. Europe brought the incredible revolution of GSM mobile telephony to the world as the first truly international telecoms standard and played a dominant role in 3G as well. When it comes to 4G, we have seen a stronger momentum in other parts of the world in the past years. China is rolling out LTE networks at an extraordinary pace, the North American operators have been amongst the first with large scale LTE rollouts and Japan and Korea have become the fastest growing LTE markets. Going forward, whether with 4G evolution, 5G development or new applications, I see chances for Europe to gain a leadership role again. I want to support this goal with my experience gained in one of the most dynamic markets in the world.”
