The FINANCIAL — Amidst recuperation in the economy, the number of millionaires in Turkey has increased by 6,000 since last year, to number 29,000, according to Today's Zaman.
Deposits in Turkish banks held by the millionaires rose by TL 35.1 billion to TL 213.4 billion.
According to figures released by the Banking Regulation and Supervision Agency (BDDK) in its Interactive Monthly Bulletin for April, Turkey’s total deposits were TL 503 billion. The figures also illustrated that TL 223.45 billion of this amount belonged to individuals, whereas the rest was owned by companies and other legal entities.
Of local residents, 29,000 had more than TL 1 million in their accounts. Account holders who reside abroad but have over TL 1 million in their Turkish accounts numbered 1,000. The amount possessed by those who reside abroad totaled TL 10.06 billion as of the end of April.
The figures also displayed that 66.8 million accounts had up to TL 10,000 in them, 2.7 million accounts had between TL 10,000 and TL 50,000 and 928,000 accounts had between TL 50,000 and TL 250,000. Another 928,000 accounts were home to amounts between TL 250,000 and TL 1 million.
