The FINANCIAL — Prime Minister Irakli Gharibashvili has officially opened the Olympic Village, which is located near the Tbilisi Sea and was built to host athletes for Tbilisi 2015 Youth Olympics. He also introduced the village’s mayor, footballer Levan Kobiashvili.
“We are all looking forward to the Olympic festival. Just a few days are left before this very important event and the tension of anticipation is increasing daily. Tbilisi has already received the Olympic Flame, while today we are opening this wonderful Olympic Village, where our guests and participants of the festival will be accommodated. As you can see, ever condition is present to host our guests in a proper way.
The Olympic Village is usually headed by a mayor, and I want to introduce our famous and favorite footballer Levan Kobiashvili to this symbolic post,”- said the PM as he handed Kobiashvili a mayoral medal.
The Prime Minister stressed that no sports event of this scale has ever been held in Georgia.
The government of Georgia has purchased 8 apartment blocks in the Olympic Village in order to later hand them over to IDPs.
As the Prime Minister told reporters after opening the Olympic Village, after the Olympic Festival is over, the apartment blocks will be transferred to IDPs, according to Georgian Journal.
