The FINANCIAL — VIENNA, 25 July 2011 – Newly appointed OSCE Secretary General Lamberto Zannier met Austrian Foreign Minister Michael Spindelegger today to discuss plans to enhance the effectiveness of the Organization as well as developments in the OSCE area.
“Austria plays an important role in the OSCE and has generously supported the Organization throughout the years, not least by providing the historic Wallnerstrasse premises of the Secretariat,” said Zannier.
“The Austrian government has emphasized the need to enhance the political role of the OSCE Secretary General, which is a goal that I share. I look forward to working with Austria and the other participating States on this and other endeavours to maximize the effectiveness and efficiency of our Organization.”
In the meeting today they also discussed Austrian and EU co-operation with the OSCE, developments in the OSCE area, and preparations for the forthcoming OSCE Ministerial Council in Vilnius in December.
