The FINANCIAL — The thematic session was held at the initiative of the Georgian Foreign Ministry and was attended by representatives of the non-governmental sector, international community and respective UN authorities, according to MFA of Georgia.
Georgian Foreign Minister Mikheil Janelidze addressed the participants of the session speaking about Georgia’s experience in the area of civic engagement. The Minister said that the civil sector actively engages in and monitors the implementation of the Association Agreement and reforms on Georgia’s European agenda.
Mikheil Janelidze attached priority importance to the active engagement of the civil sector and international community in elaborating and implementing the government’s long-term human rights strategy.
Mikheil Janelidze spoke about the Georgian Prime Minister’s initiative to conduct a regular dialogue with the civil sector. The Minister also highlighted the situation in Georgia’s occupied regions. Given the absence ofinternational monitoring mechanisms, the active engagement of the civil sector takes on an increasing focus in terms of ensuring human rights protection and restoration of confidence in the Abkhazian and Tskhinvali regions.
