The FINANCIAL — Denver International Airport (DEN) set a record for the busiest February in the airport’s history and marked the first time passenger traffic in February has topped four million total passengers in Denver.
A total of 4,069,006 passengers traveled though DEN in February 2016, an increase of 10.2 percent over the 3,693,876 passengers in February 2015 and the sixth-consecutive month of record-setting passenger traffic at the airport, according to Denver International Airport.
“Most of our airline partners continue to see substantial growth at Denver International Airport and are adding capacity to meet passenger demand,” airport CEO Kim Day said. “Southwest Airlines has seen nearly a full year of double-digit passenger increases in Denver, and United Airlines’ origin and destination traffic saw a sizable increase of 11 percent in February. Frontier Airlines also saw a 12-percent increase in passenger traffic, which is the carrier’s largest monthly increase since December 2011.”
International flights that use the airport’s customs facility increased 8.5 percent in February, with overall international traffic down 3.3 percent over the same time last year. The overall decrease is due primarily to weakness in pre-cleared Canadian destinations. Lufthansa Airlines will add to the airport’s international offerings this spring with the launch of nonstop service from Denver to Munich, Germany on May 11.
Mail, freight and express cargo operations saw 39,615,063 pounds of cargo in February 2016, a decrease of 8.1 percent compared to the same month in 2015.
