The FINANCIAL — Accoridng to RIA Novosti, Greek police have detained a man who called earlier warning about a bomb on a ferry with over 500 passengers on board, a Greek border guard representative said.
Police said the 41-year-old telephone terrorist from Piraeus Bay in Athens warned them about the bomb on the Blue Star I ferry with 508 on board en route from Piraeus Bay to Santorini Island in the Aegean Sea after a quarrel with his girlfriend.
"According to the investigation, the man informed [authorities] about the bomb because his sweetheart with whom he had an argument earlier was on board," the spokeswoman said. "Apparently, he wanted her to return," she added.
Police said the ferry was about to be returned to Piraeus Bay due to the explosion threat. However, the man's mobile number was defined and police came to the conclusion that the call was a false alarm.
The ferry safely arrived at its destination. The man was detained and is undergoing investigation.
