The FINANCIAL — An Aston University placements team member has reached the final stages of a prestigious national award in recognition of her contributions to her team and students.
Shantelle Johnson-Wiltshire, Placement Coordinator for Aston Business School, was shortlisted for the ‘Outstanding Contribution to Work Experience’ category in the National Placement and Internship Awards (NPIA’s) 2013.
The NPIAs ‘Outstanding Contribution to Work Experience’ category recognises the contributions made by staff in a university placement or careers office in supporting students with their applications and maximising their work experience opportunities.
Shantelle was commended for her work with Aston Business School students. As Aston University said, the Judges were particularly impressed with her dynamic approach and commitment in improving student motivation during their search for a work placement. Shantelle designed and facilitated extra skills events to revitalise students’ motivation to search for placements at critical times in their second year.
Shantelle beat over 300 nominations to reach the final and was shortlisted by the RMP Enterprise team.
Speaking about her award, Shantelle said; “I’m thrilled to have been nominated for this award, and to have reached the finals is amazing! I thoroughly enjoy my work, it is always satisfying to see the students succeed and reach their full potential.”

She has an infectious enthusiasm about her work and she stands out as a role model to colleagues in all areas of the university.”
The winners were announced at an awards ceremony held at etc venues, St Pauls in London on 15 February 2013.
