The FINANCIAL — Nose correction, Liposuction and breast enlargement are the most demanded operations. Doctors say people are influenced by TV shows and movie actors. Number of plastic surgery operations has doubled this summer.
“Generally the number of plastic surgery operations increases every year”, Alexander Kuzanov, Doctor of Medicine and Plastic Surgeon of Esta Kuzanov Clinic says.
“One of the main reasons of plastic surgery popularity are films and soap operas where people can see the actors with different types of plastic operations. Internet has a quite big influence on plastic surgery popularity too,” Alexander Kuzanov, Doctor of Medicine and Plastic Surgeon of Esta Kuzanov Clinic says.
“I want to change the shape of my lips”, Ketevan Bakradze, 24, says. “As soon as I get enough money I will visit plastic surgery center. Many types of plastic surgeries are available for people these days, therefore, anyone can change appearance if they need and if they can afford,” Ketevan says.
“4 months ago I changed the shape of my nose”, Ketevan Kvlividze , 22, says. “Today I feel much more confident and I like my new appearance. Everyone should use plastic surgery, mostly women if they want to look better,” Ketevan says.
“Generally Georgians have problems with their nose shape as we have a Caucasian appearance”, doctor Kuzanov says. “There is quite a big demand on breast enlargement and correction of size and shape of lips,”
“In comparison to the last, the number of our patients has significantly increased. For about 20% of our clients are foreigners. They receive information about our clinic by internet”, Kuzanov says.
Accordingly to Giga Mikautadze, General Manager of Gia Gvaramia Clinic, demand on plastic surgery has increased for about 50% this summer.
“Liposuction is the most demanded operation at our clinic but nose operation and breast enlargement lead among the much demanded plastic surgeries in Gia Gvaramia center,” Mikautadze says.
“People often come to us to change the shape of the eyes and ears. Changing the size and shape of lips is also quite popular among Georgians. We are often visited by the patients from Azerbaijan and Armenia,” Mikautadze says.
“Nose operation costs from GEL 1200 to GEL 2500 at our clinic, while enlargement of breast costs from GEL 4500 to 6000. The prices depend on how difficult is the operation. The cost of Liposuction at Gvaramia clinic starts from GEL 200 to 2500,” Mikautadze says.
Accordingly to Kuzanov, the cost of nose operations starts from 2000 to 3000 GEL. Enlargement of Breast costs 5 500 GEL, price includes the cost of implants.
“Demand on plastic surgeries is seasonal. In winter, during the period of New Year, there is quite high demand on operations. Many of Georgians living abroad visit us and try to be operated until their holidays come to an end. Summer is also very popular for plastic surgery and for that period, during holidays many foreign living Georgians visit us,” Kuzanov told The FINANCIAL.
“The number esthetic operations decrease as soon as there is any kind of destabilization in the country. People are afraid to spend extra money for their body improvement. After the August war 2008, the demand on esthetic surgery significantly decreased,” Kuzanov says.
As Kuzanov says, children who graduate from schools, frequently visited them in summer, they rushed to the clinic to return to the University with changed appearance.
“Students visit us in summer as well when they close the sessions. Spring is a popular period of time for liposuction, body correction, because people try to prepare for bikini season. We are not working in August and so September is always a busy month.” Kuzanov says.
