The FINANCIAL — Stuttgart. It was a record month for Dr. Ing. h.c. F. Porsche AG, Stuttgart: In August 2011, the sports car manufacturer delivered a total of 9,031 vehicles to customers – up 43.4 per cent compared with the same month the previous year and at the same time the best August performance in the company's history.
Looking back on the first eight months of the current fiscal year 2011, a total of 80,412 vehicles has been sold. This represents an increase of 30.1 per cent compared with the same period the year before.
Bernhard Maier, Porsche AG Board of Management Member for Sales and Marketing, interprets the development as a clear signal: “We are growing in all regions, which enabled us to achieve yet another record performance in August. I am convinced that this gives us a stable platform on which to start implementing our Strategy 2018. The new Porsche 911 Carrera, celebrating its world premiere at the IAA Frankfurt Motor Show, will appeal to many existing and new customers.”
All of the sports car manufacturer’s sales regions posted an increase in August 2011: The response from Chinese customers was especially strong: 2,244 vehicle deliveries represent more than a trebling compared with the same month the previous year. In total, the sports car manufacturer delivered 16,995 vehicles by the end of August in the current financial year in Porsche’s second largest market, China. This means an increase of 83.9 per cent compared with the period January to August 2010. With 4,347 vehicles sold in the Asia/Rest of the World region, which also includes Russia and the United Arab Emirates, Porsche managed to more than double the previous year's total. In the domestic market Germany as well, Porsche achieved a very good result in August: The 986 vehicles delivered to customers were 28.2 per cent more than the same month the previous year. In Europe, the Stuttgart-based sports car manufacturer sold a total of 2,325 units – 14.8 per cent more compared with August 2010. For North America (USA and Canada) Porsche is reporting an 8.9 per cent increase in August 2011: precisely 2,359 vehicles were delivered.
Notwithstanding the impending change of model, the 911 sports car icon posted an increase of 25.5 per cent to reach 1,204 vehicles. 1,039 units of the mid-engine Boxster and Cayman were delivered to customers in the reporting month – an increase of 61.8 per cent compared with August 2010. The bestseller in August 2011 was the Cayenne: Vehicle sales of 4,656 mean an increase of 44.9 per cent compared with the same month the previous year. The Panamera as well, up 44.0 per cent with 2,132 units delivered, accounts for a significant share of Porsche’s success.
