The FINANCIAL — According to RIA Novosti, a 6.0-magnitude quake has struck the north of southern African states of Malawi and Tanzania, the U.S. Geological Survey has said on its website.
The quake occurred early on December 20 at the depth of 15.2 km (9.4 miles). The epicenter was located some 155 km (95 miles) north of the Malawi's third largest city of Mzuzu and 140 km (85 miles) southeast of Mbeya in southwest Tanzania.
Regional media reports said at least three people were killed and hundreds injured in Malawi. Local authorities said some 270,000 people were displaced as a result.
No casualties have been reported in Tanzania.
Sunday's quake has been the worst in a series of quakes which has hit Malawi since the beginning of December.
