The FINANCIAL — At the meeting with the SRCIC Secretary General, Mr. Li Zhonghang, the President of Georgia, H.E. Giorgi Margvelashvili has discussed realization of Georgia’s transit potential within the Silk Road, legislative and institutional reforms carried out by the Georgian government, open market policy, promotion of fair competition, and protection of intellectual property.
According to President Margvelashvili, Georgia’s economic policy is focused on free, fair and sustainable development. Implemented reforms have provided for attractive investment climate in Georgia. As he further noted, Georgia’s strategic geographical location, simple tax system and customs administration, corruption free environment, and preferential trade regime make Georgia an attractive country for investment.
As highlighted, free trade regimes with China, the European Union (EFTA), and the United States will significantly increase the country’s attractiveness.
President Margvelashvili considers Georgia’s priority in foreign policy to be trade liberalization and integration with the world’s leading markets. Georgia has taken a step forward by signing the Association Agreement with the EU, including DCFTA. This agreement excludes tariff and non-tariff barriers to trade with the EU and regulates a wide range of trade issues. DCFTA will significantly increase the country’s attractiveness as a valuable investment destination.
According to the Head of Administration of the President, Mr. Giorgi Abashishvili, the meeting focused on Georgia’s role within the Silk Road and the country’s transit potential.
“Trade relations with China are further strengthened as a result of the free trade regime and therefore, Georgia is one of the most important trade routes for China and other Asian countries to export and import to Europe. We have discussed the ways how to reach Georgia’s full potential,” Mr. Abashishvili said.
The meeting has also been attended by the Advisor to the President for Foreign Affairs Mr. Tengiz Pkhaladze and the President of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Georgia Ms. Nino Chikovani, according to the Administration of the President of Georgi.
As underlined, it is highly important that the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Georgia is actively involved in the activities of SRCIC and takes part in summits that aim at establishing business communication among the Silk Road member countries.
