The FINANCIAL — At the 14th International Conference in Batumi, the President of Georgia, H.E. Giorgi Margvelashvili has called on the international community to hold strong and sharp positions against the creeping occupation and illegal actions taken by the Russian Federation.
As the President has noted at the Conference, “Georgia’s European Way”, Georgia is ready to stay firm in solving these problems and expects clear and sharp responses from the international community against the Russia’s policy of the spheres of privileged interests.
“The creeping occupation of Georgia continues and it further intensifies tension in the region. Georgia is distinguished with great responsibility and patience in solving this problem.
Our attitude towards this historic injustice, which takes place in several dozen kilometers from here, meaning the occupation of Abkhazia and the Tskhinvali region of South Ossetia, is based on the European standards, values and experience.
The walls of injustice, built on the basis of injustice and oppression of others, will be demolished to the ground, just as it happened in Europe; they will be destroyed as a result of patience, the maximum realization of our resources and peaceful processes.
No action or attempt of erecting new barriers on the territories of Georgia, which are unlawfully occupied by the Russian Federation, should be left without attention; not only Georgian citizens, but you, our colleagues and friends, should draw attention to these actions.
Because such injustice does not end there where it starts. Such injustice and unfair erection of boundary walls is always followed by relevant consequences.
Therefore we are always ready to hold sharp positions and also expect clear responses from you against the Russia’s policy of the spheres of privileged interests.
Georgia is not anyone’s sphere of privileged interests; Georgia is a European country, which has been maintaining own identity for centuries and will continue to do so in the centuries to come. The country’s democratic process is definitely the integral part of this identity”, – stated the President.
President Margvelashvili has underscored Georgia’s European choice as a historic choice and pointed out that Georgia is not interested only in using the European resources, but making own contribution through its participation, according to the Administration of the President of Georgia.
As he further pointed out, activation of a visa-free travel in the Schengen zone for the citizens of Georgia, after the full implementation of the Association and the Free Trade Agreements, has led to tangible results for Georgia on its European integration path; However, Georgia should not be satisfied with this achievement and should take further steps both, inside the country, as well as on the international arena.
“Georgia’s integration path into the European process, which is determined by the most important and strongest political, historic and cultural order of the Georgian society, is stable; while the goal of the Georgian Government is to effectively fulfill this order.
Georgia will be integrated into the European process not only as a seeker of the European benefits, but as a country that contributes to the European space. Georgia augments the European process by adding the centuries-old culture, which is based on unique European values.
Georgia enters the European process as one of the main stabilizers of the region; as a country oriented towards the cooperation and development of the region; as one of the most responsible and motivated, decision-making players in solving the most important issues, including the European energy security; and as the most responsible actor in ensuring the global security. Over the years, our militaries have served the global security and, at the cost of their lives, have contributed to the global, including the European security.
Therefore, we enter the European process not as a party, interested in making use of the European resources, but as a country that makes its own contributions”, – added the President.
The two-day conference will be focused on the European agenda, including the modern architecture of the European security, new forms of cooperation between the EU and its associated partner countries and the importance of Georgia’s role in ensuring the regional stability.
The Prime Minister of Georgia, Mr. Giorgi Kvirikashvili, the Chairman of the Parliament of Georgia, Mr. Irakli Kobakhidze, the Vice President of the European Commission, Mr. Marosh Shevchovich and the Vice-President of the European Investment Bank, Mr. Vazil Hudák have also addressed the audience.
