The FINANCIAL — Giorgi Margvelashvili, President of Georgia has held a briefing to support Tornike Rizhvadze’s candidate for the Chairman of the Government of the Autonomous Republic of Adjara.
According to President Margvelashvili, on the basis of the Constitution of Georgia, the President of Georgia nominates the candidate for the Chairman of the Government of Adjara as a result of consultations held with the Supreme Council of Adjara.
“I visited Adjara about three days ago to hold consultations. During the consultation period, Tornike Rizhvadze, nominated by the “Georgian Dream” was the only candidate. While meeting with opposition parties, I was surprised that no other candidate was presented; however, later on they
presented Mr. Armaz Akhvlediani’s candidate.
I positively assess democratic process of nominating and presenting candidates to the public and believe that a competitive political environment is a precondition for the effective democratic functioning of the country.
I have heard views from the both candidates and respective political forces they represent, and, considering the current context that Mr. Tornike Rizhvadze is a representative of the party that holds the majority in the Supreme Council of Adjara, I find it logical to support Mr. Tornike Rizhvadze’s candidate. Ana Natsvlishvili will go through further procedures with the Supreme Council of Adjara,” Giorgi Margvelashvili said.
