The FINANCIAL — In the latest Reuters/Ipsos Core Political, President Trump’s overall approval rating is down 2 points.
In data collected prior to the collapse of the latest Senate healthcare bill, one in five Americans (20%) say the most important problem facing the US today is healthcare, yet answers to this question fall distinctively along party lines. A quarter of Democrats (26%) prioritise healthcare, distantly followed by the economy (13%) and terrorism (8%). Conversely, Republicans are significantly more focused on terrorism (24%), notably followed by morality at 14%. Independents more closely mirror Democrats, focusing on healthcare (21%).
Approval of Congress remains low, with under a quarter of Americans approving of the body as a whole (23%). However, two in five Americans (44%) approve of how their own Congressperson is handling their job as Representative.
President Trump’s approval is 38%, with 58% disapproving of how he’s handling the presidency. Disapproval among Independents continues to grow, now at 65%, while Republicans steadfastly approve of the president (77%).
