The FINANCIAL – At the meeting in Brussels on March 19, Prime Minister Laimdota Straujuma and European Council President Donald Tusk shared the view that the process of establishing the prospective European Energy Union should be transparent.
During their discussion, Laimdota Straujuma pointed out that the principle of security and transparency in establishing the European Energy Union is important for Latvia as the country holding the Presidency of the Council of the European Union.
As regards the formation of the European Fund for Strategic Investments, the Prime Minister stated that she will discuss this issue with the President of the European Parliament, Martin Schulz, because Latvia wants the European Parliament to approve the establishment of the European Fund for Strategic Investments during the Latvian Presidency.
Discussing the current situation in Ukraine, Laimdota Straujuma stressed that it is not possible to talk of lifting the sanctions against Russia until all the ceasefire conditions agreed in Minsk are fully implemented, EU said.
The two parties also discussed the forthcoming Eastern Partnership Summit to be held in Riga in May, noting the importance of this event and the opportunity it provided to assess the progress made by each Eastern Partnership country in the negotiations on closer cooperation with the European Union.
