The FINANCIAL — Secretary General of the Organization for Democracy and Economic Development – GUAM Altai Efendiev paid a working visit to Tbilisi on 13-14 February, within the framework of Georgia’s GUAM chairmanship.
The GUAM Secretary General met with Foreign Minister Mikheil Janelidze and before that, on 13 February, he held consultations with GUAM National Coordinator, Deputy Foreign Minister Vakhtang Makharoblishvili.
The sides discussed main issues of the agenda of the Organization, priorities of Georgia’s GUAM chairmanship programme “Together for Stronger GUAM” and planned events to mark the 20th anniversary of the foundation of GUAM, according to MFA of Georgia.
The Georgian side reaffirmed its readiness to continue its efforts towards fully using GUAM’s potential and further promoting the organization internationally, as well as to facilitate sectoral co-operation and to intensify co-operation with the organisation’s main partner states (the U.S., Japan) and other international and regional organisations in the GUAM+ format.
The sides underlined the importance of a meeting of the heads of government of the GUAM Member States scheduled to take place in Kiev, on 27 March 2017, as well as of the GUAM business forum, which will add a fresh impetus to co-operation within the framework of the Organization, especially in the areas of economy, trade and transport.
On 14 February, the GUAM Secretary General also met with members of Georgia’s parliamentary delegation to the GUAM Parliamentary Assembly.
Within the framework of his two-day visit to Tbilisi, the GUAM Secretary General held meetings with Deputy Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development Genadi Arveladze, Prime Minister’s Foreign Affairs Advisor Tedo Japaridze and Head of the Georgian National Tourism Administration Giorgi Chogovadze.
