The FINANCIAL — Chairman of the "United Russia", chair of the Russian state Duma (lower house of the parliament) Bois Gryzlov met the secessionist leaders of Abkhazia, Sergey Bagapsh and South Ossetia, Eduard Kokoity, on 18 February the United Russia reports .
It is reported that the meeting was held at the initiative of Bagapsh and Kokoity, to discuss implications of Kosovo's unilateral declaration of independence from Serbia. "Boris Gryzlov stressed, that recognition of Kosovo's independence will create all necessary pre-conditions for building the new format of relationships of the Russian Federation with self-declared states in the sphere of natural interests of Russia, especially in post-Soviet space," the official report reads.
United Russia has the majority in the Russian parliament and is backing election of Dmitriy Medvedev, President Vladimir Putin's anointed successor.
