The FINANCIAL — In February 2018 the Producer Price Index (PPI) for Industrial Products decreased by 0.9 percent over January 2018, while the index increased by 6.0 percent compared to February 2017.
In February prices for manufactured products decreased by 1.0 percent compared to the previous month, which resulted in a -0.78 percentage point contribution to the overall monthly PPI change, according to GeoStat.
The prices decreased 13.1 percent for wood and products of wood and cork (except furniture), articles of straw and plaiting materials. Price were also lower for chemicals, chemical products and man-made fibres (-4.5 percent), also for basic metals and fabricated metal products (-1.6 percent).
The annual PPI rate was mainly affected by price changes for the following products:
• Manufactured products: prices increased by 5.1 percent, contributing 4.13 percentage points to the overall annual index growth. Prices increased mainly for food products, beverages and tobacco (4.9 percent) and basic metals and fabricated metal products (11.6 percent);
• Electrical energy, gas, steam and hot water: prices increased by 11.6 percent and contributed 1.6 percentage points to the overall PPI change.
