The FINANCIAL — According to Civil Georgia, the public television reported that Georgia’s ambassador to Spain, Zurab Pololikashvili, 32, may be named as new Economy Minister.
In its report aired on August 22, the public TV described Pololikashvili as “President Saakashvili’s team member.” No official confirmation or denial of the report was made by the authorities. The Georgian national television stations are usually used for leaking official information.
Prime Minister, Nika Gilauri, who sacked Lasha Zhvania from the post of Economy Minister on August 21, said he would name the new minister within two weeks, as envisaged by the law.
In 2005 Pololikashvili was appointed as deputy foreign minister and then ambassador to Spain in 2006. Before joining the Foreign Ministry, Pololikashvili worked for TBC Bank for seven years, including on senior managerial positions.
