The FINANCIAL — Qantas commenced direct flights from Sydney to Dallas / Fort Worth (DFW) today, delivering unprecedented access to North America for Australians.
Operated by a Boeing 747 aircraft, QF7 departed Sydney Airport at 1325 local time today, and is scheduled to arrive at Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport at 1350 local time, also today.
"The US is a key market for Australian tourism, delivering close to half a million visitors each year and around $2.1 billion in expenditure," Mr McEvoy commented.
The first inbound service, QF8, will depart DFW at 2200 local time, arriving in Brisbane at 0500 on 18 May and flying onwards to Sydney, landing at 0805. Flying time from Sydney to DFW is 15 hours 25 minutes, and flying time from DFW to Brisbane is 16 hours.
DFW is Qantas' first new international destination since Buenos Aires in 2008. The service will initially operate four times per week, with a view to increasing the frequency in future. Through its codeshare partnership with American Airlines, Qantas will offer services beyond DFW to 54 destinations in the United States, Canada and Mexico – including Chicago, Las Vegas, Miami, New Orleans, New York, Washington, Toronto, Vancouver, Cancun and Mexico City.
Qantas Chief Executive Officer, Mr Alan Joyce, said Qantas was delighted to be providing the first direct connection between Australia and Texas.
"This new service takes Qantas customers into the heart of the United States, with a wide range of options for onward travel," Mr Joyce said.
