The FINANCIAL — A dream literally took off when Qatar Airways invited 100 children on a specially organised flight over Qatar.
The joint initiative was aimed at bringing fun and joy into the lives of children – many from the Qatar Orphan Foundation “Dhreima” – and to contribute to the organisation’s activity programme set up to entertain the kids over the summer holidays.
In line with the airline’s active programme working with the local community, the 45-minute flight took the children, their aides and local media on a journey over the State of Qatar.
Most of the children, aged between 5 and 16 years, have never flown before, resulting in an air of excitement and anticipation as the crowds gathered at Doha International Airport for the special Airbus A321 flight.
Welcomed by Qatar Airways’ Chief Executive Officer Akbar Al Baker, who joined the event with Dhreima’s General Director Khaled Kamal, the children were left with a great moment to treasure.
To make the experience true to life, boarding passes were given out by the airport’s ground handling staff before the airline’s special guests entered the plane, and Qatar Airways’ cabin crew provided the superior Five Star service which the airline is renowned for worldwide.
Special inflight kids meals were served and all children received the airline’s Oryx backpacks filled with fun items to keep them entertained during their next flights.
Al Baker said: “Qatar Airways has a long tradition of supporting charitable projects and this includes playing an active part in the community we serve. To see the faces of these children laughing and smiling shows that we made a significant difference in their lives and gave them a new outlook towards their future.
“Through this life-time experience, children will see that it is worthwhile reaching for the stars and that dreams can become reality. Who knows, some of you might one day be working for Qatar Airways as a pilot or an engineer and we hope to have sparked interest and inspired you to pursue ambitions.”
Dhreima General Director Khaled Kamal added: “We are delighted to partner with Qatar Airways to raise awareness among the community for underprivileged children.
“This big-hearted gesture by Qatar Airways for the kids of the Qatar Orphan Foundation has been an amazing experience for the children, and has brought bright smiles to their faces, and in fact, to everyone involved.”
