The FINANCIAL — A record number of passengers travelled through Dublin Airport in May.
Passenger numbers grew by 11% last month, with almost 2.5 million passengers travelling through the airport. This was the busiest May ever in the airport’s 76-year history.
Over 1.3 million passengers travelled to and from continental Europe in May, an 11% increase compared to last year. UK traffic also recorded an 11% increase, with almost 838,000 passengers travelling last month, according to Dublin Airport.
Passenger volumes to and from North America grew by 14%, with over 271,000 passengers travelling on this route sector in May.
Other international traffic, which includes flights to the Middle East and Africa, declined by 3% in May, with almost 55,000 passengers travelling on these routes during the month.
Almost 9,000 passengers travelled on domestic routes last month, a 44% increase on May 2015.
Dublin Airport has handled almost 10.3 million passengers in the first five months of this year, which represents a 14% increase on the same period in 2015. Almost 1.3 million extra passengers have been welcomed at Dublin Airport so far this year.
