The FINANCIAL — Regent’s Board of Trustees and Directorate are delighted to announce Jose Ferreira Machado as the new Pro Vice Chancellor and Dean of the Faculty of Business & Management along with Diana Walford CBE as Chair of the Trustee Board.
Jose Ferreira Machado – Pro Vice Chancellor and Dean of the Faculty of Business & Management
Jose is a very experienced Dean. He has been the Dean of the Nova Business School in Lisbon, the top school in Portugal and one of the top thirty in Europe, for the last ten years, the maximum term permissible. He transformed an Economics department at Nova University into a recognised Business School with international appeal, repositioning Nova and emphasising its unique geographic location.
He has been the driving force behind gaining triple accreditation for Nova and believes that this is a direction to be pursued at Regent’s. He is also keen to continue the review of the programme portfolio that has already commenced in the faculty and particularly to look at future specialist masters programmes. Jose will take up his post on 1 June.
Diana Walford CBE – Chair of the Trustee Board
Following a high level career in medicine and the Civil Service, Diana Walford CBE was appointed Principal of Mansfield College Oxford in 2003, a post she held for eight years and where she remains an Honorary Fellow. During her tenure, Mansfield became very active in recruiting students from further education institutions and championing the widening participation agenda.
Diana was asked to chair the admissions committee at Oxford and she radically transformed how students are selected, moving towards a much fairer system and was subsequently asked to take the position of Pro Vice-Chancellor. She is currently a Trustee of Sue Ryder and Deputy Chair of the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, has been a trustee of the University College Hospital Group and is on the State Honours Committee.
Diana has been impressed by what she has seen at Regent’s and the core mission and values that our university holds. She is committed to internationalism and public benefit and sees the institution at a crossroads and ready to take the next step forward through its many exciting opportunities. Diana will take up her post in July and will chair her first Board meeting on 29 July.
