The FINANCIAL — According to Georgian Foreign Minister Mikheil Janelidze, in the era of globalized economies, common markets and free trade agreements active economic diplomacy is crucial for sustainable economic growth.
Speaking about the importance of the Economic Diplomacy Project before the session of the NATO Parliamentary Assembly, he said that about a year ago, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in tandem with the Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development, launched a far-reaching Economic Diplomacy project, which has already born fruit, as a number of important economic deals have been signed, most notable being the mentioned DCFTA with the EU and the free trade agreement with China, according to MFA of Georgia.
“In the modern international relations, active cooperation with trans-regional and trans-continental partners both on bilateral and multilateral formats are key to the effective diplomacy. Georgia’s political maturity and economic openness with virtually non-existent corruption render it an attractive partner to many countries from all corners of the globe. Georgia has been effectively employing its strategic location at the crossroads of major trade and transportation routes, as its regional projects have the implications for Europe’s energy security and better connectivity between Europe and Asia” – the Minister said.
According to Mikheil Janelidze, Georgia’s international outreach and development will be greatly assisted by strengthening the ties between our institutions and the ethnic Georgians living abroad. The goal is to enhance Diaspora’s cultural ties with Georgia, as well as their contribution to the country’s trade and economic development relations.
