The FINANCIAL — Twenty-seven participants from the Asia-Pacific region are attending the two-month Regional Trade Policy Course (RTPC) for Asia-Pacific members and observers of the WTO.
The RTPC is taking place in Bangkok, Thailand, from 2 October to 24 November 2017 and has been organized in partnership with the Chulalongkorn University and the International Institute for Trade and Development (ITD).
The RTPC was opened by Professor Pomthong Malakul Na Ayudhaya, Vice President of Chulalongkorn University, Dr Kamalinne Pinutpivadol, Executive Director of the ITD, and Mr Roberto Fiorentino and Dr Faustin Luanga of the WTO’s Institute for Training and Technical Cooperation.
Professor Pomthong Malakul and Dr Pinutpivadol thanked the WTO for its partnership with their respective institutions and for the opportunity to help government officials in the Asia-Pacific region develop their know-how in the important area of trade policy. They also highlighted how the RTPC plays an important contribution to regional integration by strengthening the professional network of government officials from the region, according to WTO.
RTPCs are intermediate (Progressive Learning Strategy Level 2) “generalist” training courses specifically designed for government officials from various government ministries/agencies working on trade-related issues who have already undertaken basic WTO training. The eight-week courses are run in all major regions (Africa, Asia-Pacific, Latin America, Central Eastern Europe, Central Asia and the Caucasus, Arab-Middle East and the Caribbean) and are organized by the WTO in partnership with regional academic institutions. The courses are co-delivered by officials from the WTO Secretariat and trade policy specialists and academic experts from the region. The course curriculum covers the WTO agreements and other trade-related issues, including regional trade policy issues. The course is delivered through a combination of lectures, co-lecturing with regional academics/trade policy specialists, case studies and exercises. It concludes with an exam.
This is the third time that the RTPC has been organized in partnership with the Chulalongkorn University and the ITD.
