The FINANCIAL — Matt Gitsham, Director of Ashridge Business School’s Centre for Business and Sustainability, has been awarded a leading international accolade for his work.
He received the "Rising Star" award at the 9th Annual Colloquium of the Academy of Business in Society (EABIS), held this year in St Petersburg. The award is made annually as part of the EABIS-Aspen European Faculty Pioneer Awards.
"Since 2003 the Academy of Business in Society and The Aspen Institute Center for Business Education have partnered to honour European Business School faculty who have demonstrated great vision and outstanding leadership in integrating the principles of sustainable development into research, education and learning, student communities and corporate practice," Ashridge Business School said.
This honour recognises the work by the next generation of educators, to fully integrate corporate responsibility into the heart of their institutions. And, at Ashridge, Matt has been at the forefront in promoting thought leadership around organisational change, leadership development and sustainability.
Matt said:
“I was totally shocked when I heard my name called out to receive the award. I was obviously thrilled to receive the prize, which is also testament to the work of those around me here at Ashridge. The award highlights the need for business schools to invest more in sustainability, to help increase its integration into business.”
His achievements were emphasised by Prof. Gilbert Lenssen, EABIS President, in making the presentation:
“This rewards his exceptional work in the Developing The Global Leader of Tomorrow CEO Study with the United Nations and EABIS where corporate organisations set out what they require of business schools to meet the challenge of sustainability. He has also contributed significantly to teaching and student development. More broadly, it is a strong endorsement for his strategic vision and support to establish Ashridge as a world leader in the field.
“On a more individual level, we also feel that it is due recognition for Matt’s openness and constant willingness to work with others to advance global knowledge and learning. He is a greatly appreciated colleague and we are delighted to see him receive this award.”
