The FINANCIAL — Akbank has named Rodrigo de Rato y Figaredo, former Managing Director of the IMF and Spain's former Economy Minister and Vice President, member of its International Advisory Board.
Akbank Chairman and Executive Board Member Suzan Sabancı Dinçer said she is pleased Rodrigo Rato accepted their proposal to join the Bank’s International Advisory Board. Sabancı Dinçer said: “His exceptionally rich knowledge of the world economy, his experience and global vision will be very valuable for Akbank. Akbank’s International Advisory Board, composed of prominent members from Turkey and abroad, is further strenghtened with our new member”.
Akbank’s International Advisory Board is a non-executive body discussing global financial and economic developments and the Turkish context to provide Akbank’s management a broad perspective on world affairs and their implications.
Biography: Chairman of Caja Madrid since January 2010, Rodrigo Rato (Madrid, 1949) served as the managing director of the International Monetary Fund between 2004-2007. Previously, he had been Vice-President for Economic Affairs and Finance Minister for the Spanish government, from 1996.
As the Finance Minister, he was also appointed Governor for Spain in the Governors’ Meetings of the IMF, the World Bank, the Inter-American Development Bank, the European Investment Bank and the European Reconstruction and Development Bank.
He holds a law degree from the Universidad Complutense in Madrid, an MBA from the University of California, and a doctorate in economics from the Universidad Complutense.
