The FINANCIAL — Rompetrol Georgia plans to continue sponsoring the 2010 season of motor racing sports in Georgia.
Rompetrol Georgia and the Georgian National Automobile Federation signed a memorandum of cooperation at the awards ceremony for the winner racers of 2009 at Astra Park on February 15. Alexander Albin, the Rompetrol Georgia Director General, and Mevlud Meladze, the Georgian National Automobile Federation President, signed the document.
Both government and business sector representatives congratulated the 2009 season winner racers on their success. The winner racers received diplomas and prizes. Rompetrol Georgia granted them super-class fuel. According to annualized scores, Mevlud Meladze won a six-level circuit racing and Class till-2000 competition, while Otar Tavartkiladze won a four-level paired racing. The crew of Goga Arjevanidze and Keti Bochoidze were successful in rise racing, while the crew of Archil Bidzinahshvili and Gulnara Khubutia won the Class till-2000 competition. Zviad Adeishvili was named drifting master. Irakli Kukhianidze, Kote Koliashvili and Data Kajaia were named the 2009 amateur competition winners.
“Starting in 2008 all National Championships are carried out under the aegis of Rompetrol Georgia and we will sponsor this field in 2010 too. I am pleased that the number of racing fans is increasing every year. The year 2009 marked a 35 percent increase in the quantity of racers, federation members and racing bolides. The 2010 season will open with the Kus Tba rise racing and I believe we will have the opportunity to attend a number of interesting events in 2010,” Alexander Albin noted.
Mevlud Meladze, President of the Georgian National Automobile Federation, also reviewed the 2009 performance.
“The last year saw a number of serious successes. Mono Honda was added to circuit racing as a new class. A new investor has acquired the Rustavi-based aerodrome and reconstruction works will be started in 2010. Textbooks in traffic rules have been printed and distributed in secondary schools. We also plan to organize international racing competitions in Georgia. And Giorgi Kodua, 17, has taken part in several levels of the European Cup and won the prize of Europe’s Successful Young Racer,” Mevlud Meladze noted.
The 2010 season includes six levels of circuit racing, three levels of paired racing, three motor crosses and four levels of carting, Meladze said. This year beginner racers will be licensed and one or two levels of the circuit racing will be held in various regions of Georgia. The competition will also include the mono BMW 2.0 class. On November 10-12 Georgia will host one of the levels of the Eastern Europe Cup. Two Georgian crews will take part in at least four international levels of both the European Championship and the European Cup Championship.
Rompetrol Georgia has been providing general sponsorship for the motor racing sports in Georgia since 2008. The company supplies fuel to racers at all levels and awards winners. Gala award ceremonies by Rompetrol Georgia have become of a traditional character and are held prior to the commencement of every new level.
