The FINANCIAL — Russia's National Media Group (NMG) may sell a 51.8 percent stake in National Telecommunications (NT), one of the country's leading cable broadcasting companies, for about $1.5 billion, with the most likely buyer being long-distance carrier Rostelecom, Vedomosti business daily said on November 1, according to RIA Novosti.
The paper quoted an investment banker familiar with the deal as saying that NMG, which bought the NT stake from Nafta Moskva investment company in 2008 for about $1.5 billion, may sell it for the same price or a little more.
Vedomosti quoted a source close to NMG as saying that the company had been in talks with Rostelecom to sell the stake. A Moscow telecoms company manager also said NMG had negotiated the sale with Rostelecom. Rostelecom declined to comment.
