The FINANCIAL — According to Civil Georgia, Russian Defense Ministry official has denied Tbilisi’s allegation that Russian troops were installing a military base in breakaway Abkhazia.
An official from the Georgia’s Abkhaz government-in-exile, Tornike Kilanava, claimed on June 15 that base was located in a village of Agubedia in the Ochamchire district. He told the Georgian television stations that Russian troops had already deployed there military hardware and anti-aircraft guns.
Alexander Drobishevsky, a Russian Defense Ministry spokesman, told the Interfax news agency on June 15 that the report was yet another disinformation “aimed at discrediting Collective Peacekeeping Forces in the Georgian-Abkhaz conflict zone.”
