The FINANCIAL — According to RIA Novosti, Russia's flagship air carrier Aeroflot announced on May 18 its net profit under Russian Accounting Standards increased 23%, year-on-year, in January-March 2009 to 1.6 billion rubles ($50 million).
Aeroflot, which carries more than 8 million passengers annually and a further 2 million on its subsidiaries, said its revenue increased 3% in January-March 2009 from the same period last year to 19.6 billion rubles ($612 million).
Passenger flow, however, shrank 13.4% in the reporting period to 1.776 million both on domestic and international routes, the air carrier said.
Aeroflot, which flies to 96 destinations in 49 countries, accounts for 51% of Russia's international air traffic and 12% of domestic flights.
The Russian government holds a 51.17% stake in Aeroflot.
