The FINANCIAL — One of the leading Georgian channels, Rustavi 2 and Imedi had the biggest share of active viewers for December 31st according to TV MR Georgia Nielsen Television Audience Measurement ratings.
The survey was held in 7 big cities of Georgia, which has around 45000 residents including Tbilisi, Rustavi, Gori, Batumi, Poti, Zugdidi and Kutaisi.
“During research our Target audience was 4+. We counted Average Minute Rating AMR an average of the audience per minute divide by the total of a population or target: We also ranked the share SHR of our target audience,” TV MR Georgia, Nielsen Television Audience Measurements official representative notes.
“For 31st of December, among Georgian channels, Rustavi 2 leads with the highest Average Minute Rating, with 9.90%. The second place belongs to Imedi channel with 7, 24% AMR, what is less by 2, 66% in compare with the index of Rustavi 2 AMR %. Georgian Public Broadcasters AMR was 1, 16%, less by 6, 08 percent in compare with Imedi and less by 8,74 in accordance to Rustavi 2,” TV MR Georgia, Nielsen Television Audience Measurement notes.
“For 31st of December Sakartvelo channel had 0,72% AMR, Maestro 0,36%, New Channel 0,26 % Mze 0,20%,Enki-Benki, entertaining channel for kids 0,16%, !ST 0,15%, Music Box 0,09%. The last place according to AMR % belonged to Real TV with 0,07%,” TV MR Georgia, Nielsen Television Audience Measurement notes.
Rustavi 2 had the highest share SHR of active viewers among the target audience from the age of 4 in 7 big cities of Georgia. Despite the fact that for the last period many cable TVs have appeared and variety of foreign channels are available, highest share of viewers preferred to watch Georgian channels for New Year.
“From 100% of target audience, Rustavi 2 had 38,97 % active viewers on December 31st. Imedi channel had 28,48% active viewers SHR, what is less by 10,49% in compare with Rustavi 2,” TV MR Georgia, Nielsen Television Audience Measurement states.
“Georgian Public Broadcaster has positioned the 3rd place according to Nielsen survey and occupies 4,55%SHR of active viewers. The share index of GPB is quite low in contrast to the first two leading channels and is less by 34,42 % SHR in accordance with Ristavi 2 and less by 23,93% in compare with Imedi,” TV MR Georgia, Nielsen Television Audience Measurement notes.
According to measurements of TV MR Georgia Nielsen, Sakartvelo channel had 2,85% SHR, less by only 1,7% in contrast to GPB. Maestro had 1,43% share of active viewers among target audience, New Channel 1,01%, Mze 0,77%, Enki-Benki 0,64%, !ST 0,58%, Music Box 0,35%, Real TV 0,27%.
Other Georgian channels in total had 6,01% SHR active viewes, among target audience of Nielsen measurements. Other Foreign channels had 4,16% SHR, less by 1,85% in contrast to other Georgian Channels. 2,76% SHR of active viewers watched different other Russian channels, less by 3,25% in compare with other Georgian channels and less by 1,4 % in compare with Other foreign channels. Different other channels had 7, 17% SHR of active viewers.
Some of the interviewed people by The FINANCIAL say that despite the fact that Georgian channels offer the same program every year, they prefer to watch local channels anyway.
“Unfortunately Georgian channel offer the same TV programmes every year. For the 31st of December, while being at home, my family generally watches leading Georgian channel, like Rustavi 2 and Imedi. These channels have normal New Year programmes if we compare it to different other channels in Georgia.” Giorgi Ghaghanidze 21 Business School Student says. ‘
“I have a cable TV and opportunity to watch different foreign channels. But for the New Year period I always prefer to watch Georgian channels. This year I preferred to watch a live concert on Marjanishvili Street. It will be much better if Georgian channels will improve their New Year programme for the future,” Anano Magradze 23, Artist says.
According to Gega Palavandishvili, Marketing Manager of Rustavi 2, the high rating of the channel is determined by the modern and interesting TV shows and programmes which they offer.
“Despite the fact that there are some of cable TVs’ in Georgia and veriety of foreign channels, people prefer to watch programmes on their native language. We always try to offer our viewers most interesting and entertaining programmes for New Year and we will continue working on novelties for the future as well,” Palavandishvili said.
