The FINANCIAL — According to online magazine Civil Georgia, Georgia will respond "appropriately" to threats to its territorial integrity President Saakashvili said on February 18.
Below is Saakashvili’s full statement:
“I’ve heard threats voiced in this [Kosovo] context against Georgia’s territorial integrity not once in recent years. Today the situation is in a very serious phase. It is expectedthat Kosovo will be recognized by many states today and tomorrow, and I know some are speaking about actions with respect to Georgia’s [secessionist] territories.
Firstly, I want to say that the state agencies should work in a very organized manner, in a normal way and no one should deter their functioning, whatever international situation is created.
Secondly, I want our society, as well as the international community to understand, that we can and we have power to undertake effective actions in response to the moves directed against Georgia in this [Kosovo] context .
We will eradicate any provocation and we will respond with appropriate measures. I do not advise anyone to even put a nose into this issue and to escale tensions.
We want to resolve all the issues peacefully – we do not need any unrests now – but Georgia will not step back.”
