“100 units of the Galaxy S III are sold per minute globally,” said Svetlana Pani, HHP Sales Manager, Samsung Electronics Co. “I hope that it will gain the same popularity in Georgia as well and will become the most popular smartphone for Georgians. The design is inspired by nature and is human-centric. It opens a new range of possibilities and gives owners the chance to live extraordinarily. It just simplifies life.”
Is spite of its lots advantages the price of the new Galaxy S III is higher than other smartphones.
The Samsung Galaxy S III has several intellectual functions including Smart Stay, S Voice, Social Tag, Direct Call, Smart Alert, S Beam and some unique functions including Pop-up Play, Best Photo and VIP service.
The Samsung Galaxy S III has a 4.8 inch display, 4-core processor and HD super AMOLED screen. Its thickness is 8.6 mm and weight – 133 gr. The phone is made of hyper glass and has no lines at all. Its 4.0 Bluetooth gives the possibility to increase the speed of data processing. Mobiles are available in two colours, rock crystal blue and marble white.
“The size of the screen is 22 percent bigger than the previous Galaxy model,” said Sergey Sadkov, Product Marketing Specialist, Samsung Electronics CIS HQ. “The smartphone knows eight languages including English, German and Italian. The Galaxy S III which will be sold in Georgia will have a special possibility to read Georgian script.”
The owner of a certificated Galaxy S III has the possibility to get VIP service, plus access to consultations with specialists 24 hourly.
The function Pop-up Play gives customers the possibility to be watching something and at the same time do research or type a text message in the background window. The smartphone Samsung Galaxy S III analyzes when its owner is smiling and takes photos at exactly that moment. It won’t take the photo if he/she suddenly closes their eyes. The Galaxy S III takes eight photos and chooses the best one automatically. It can shoot 3.3 photos per second.
“Usually, the screens of ordinary smartphones go dark after a designated amount of time. But sometimes we want to linger on a page without touching it, especially when we’re reading an e-book, or a long email. It is annoying to continuously have to touch the screen to keep it awake or even worse, to enter your password to get back to your reading because the screen went dark,” Sadkov claims. “The function S Voice means that the mobile listens to its owner and will respond if he/she says the phone can call several minutes later, answer incoming calls, take a photo or reduce volume. By using the function S Beam the owner of a Galaxy can send large files in just seconds by simply saying the recipient’s name and touching the phones to each other.”
A presentation of the Samsung Galaxy S III was held in Tbilisi, at the Radison Blu Iveria Hotel. Oh Sung Kim, Head of the Mobile Phones Department in Caucasian Countries, Nikoloz Doborjinigdze, Regional representative in Georgia, and Svetlana Pani, HHP Sales Manager, attended the presentation. Samsung Electronics presented the Samsung Galaxy S III to Samori Balde, winner of the show Dancing with the Stars, during the presentation.
Samsung Electronics became the world’s biggest mobile handset vendor for the first time ever in the first quarter of 2012. According to the latest data Samsung has sold more phones than Apple, and is declared a bigger manufacturer than Nokia. The South Korean tech giant earned itself a whopping 2.75 billion GBP in the first quarter of this year, selling 22 percent more mobiles than it did in the same period in 2011. It shares 23.5 percent of the global market, which is 2 and 7 percent more respectively than its competitors. The company predicts a threefold increase of smartphone sales in 2012.
According to the latest findings Samsung holds at least 30 percent of the market share in Georgia. The company expects a big leap due to their flagship models like Galaxy S III and Galaxy Note.
Samsung’s official representative office has been operating in Georgia since 2005.
“Since then the market share of Samsung products has been enjoying a significant growth rate,” Nikoloz Doborjginidze, Regional representative in Georgia said. “The office is also getting larger. It started with two local employees, whereas we now employ eight professionals. We continuously try to adapt the global brand’s marketing communication to the local market by translating all printing materials in to the Georgian language. In addition, we are currently working to launch an official Samsung website for Georgia: Samsung.com/ge.”
“The growth rate percentage from 2010-2011 is 40 percent. As for 2011-2012, for now we have the same growth rate as before, not in quantity but in amount. This is attributed to the increase of the smartphone share in overall sales which is increasing due to the higher price of smartphones,” he added.
Samsung claims that it has two types of competitors, in the low end segment – Nokia, and in the high end segment – Apple.
Sales of Samsung phones are permanently increasing globally. According to the data of June 1, Samsung has sold 24 million Galaxy S phones, 28 million Galaxy S II, 7 million Galaxy Note, and 52 million Galaxy S series phones.
“In Georgia we expect sales of at least 3,000 for 2011 and the five months of 2012. Samsung Galaxy II was the leading smartphone in Samsung sales of Georgia.” Doborjginidze claims.
“Recent research shows that Georgians are extremely brand loyal. They tend to buy phones not for their technical characteristics but for their brand value. They are ready to pay more than they can afford to acquire the branded phones they like,” he added.
Despite the high sales in Georgia, currently Azerbaijan is the leading country in the Caucasus region in terms of sales of Samsung phones because of its high population and GDP, company representatives say.
The turnover of Samsung electronics Co., Ltd amounted to 143,1 million USD in 2011. It has 197 offices in 72 countries. In total the number of its employees is 101,970 individuals.
