The FINANCIAL — SANYO Electric Co., Ltd. (SANYO) is pleased to announce that eneloop, rechargeable nickel-metal hydride battery, has won the consumer category prize in the 2009 Australian International Design Awards, Standards Australia's world renowned design recognition program.
"The awards reward excellence in design and innovation, providing consumers with an independent indicator of quality and value for professionally designed products available on the Australian market. This award program represents Australia's only international design awards recognized by the country's national government for promoting Australian design both in and outside the country and for providing business opportunities on a global scale," SANYO says.
SANYO's Dual Camera Xacti VPC-CA8 was also a finalist in the same category this year. This year's winning products were announced at an award ceremony held on May 29, 2009 in Melbourne, Australia.
In 2008, the eneloop received the German iF Design Award, and the Dual Camera Xacti won a "red dot design award" in Germany for its VPC-CA65 and VPC-HD1000 models in the same year, but this is the first time two outstanding SANYO products have received recognition at the 2009 Australian International Design Awards. In Japan, the eneloop has received many design awards, such as the Gold Prize in Good Design Award 2006, and Gold Prize in Japan Package Design Award 2007, while the DMX-CG9 won a Good Design Award in fiscal year 2008.
Both eneloop and Xacti have been receiving accolades in and outside of Japan, and SANYO will continue creating products that provide new ways for people to communicate with each other and enjoy life.
