The FINANCIAL — Alcatel-Lucent (Euronext Paris and NYSE: ALU) has formally appointed Sean O’Halloran as the vice president of its Australian National Broadband Network (NBN) team. Previously, Sean was vice president of Alcatel-Lucent’s Enterprise Group in Australia.
In this new role, Sean will be responsible for leading the organisation’s activities on Australia’s NBN, including the sales, technical, services and marketing focus, as the NBN moves into a new and exciting phase.
Andrew Butterworth, managing director Alcatel-Lucent Australia said the appointment reflected the organisation’s strong commitment to Australia’s digital future and the development of broadband locally. “The National Broadband Network represents an exciting opportunity for Alcatel-Lucent and for Australia. As the leader in deploying broadband networks around the world, this is certainly a significant project for our organisation both locally and globally. We have built a strong and extensive team internally, for which Sean is the ideal person to lead. Sean has extensive leadership credentials across the enterprise and carrier markets and brings key sales, market and technical knowledge to the role.”
With over 20 years of industry experience, Sean has extensive senior executive experience in strategic sales, carrier and regulatory affairs and network engineering across both Australia/New Zealand and Asia Pacific. He has worked with Telstra, Optus, MCI/Verizon and NEC.

John Turner, who has been running the initial set up of the Alcatel-Lucent NBN team and the first phase of solutions development is set to leave the company to pursue a private business venture. During his 13 years with the company, John has held several executive positions including leading the company’s Australasian broadband access business. To ensure a smooth team transition, John will remain with the company until the end of the year.
“John has been an immense asset to our organisation over the years and will be much missed. I would like to thank John for his outstanding contribution and wish him the best in his future endeavours,” said Butterworth.
