The FINANCIAL — Severn Trent Water is the first utility to offer their non Direct Debit customers the option to pay their bills using Barclays Pingit. The app is free to use and is a simple and secure way to pay bills wherever and whenever, so long as customers have their bill, a mobile phone or tablet and a UK bank account. Customers simply scan the QR code that is on their bill via the Barclays Pingit app to make a payment, according to Barclays, a global financial services provider.
“We’re really pleased to be working with Barclays on this new innovative service that offers our customers even more paying options. This technology has only been available for a short time and we wanted to embrace it as quickly as possible. We’re the first utility company in the UK to offer customers the choice of paying with Barclays Pingit,” said Rosa Legassick, who managed the programme for Severn Trent Water.
This new service is key to offering customers more choice in how they pay their water bill, and is part of a series of new technology launches from Severn Trent Water that makes it even easier for customers to deal with them, according to Barclays.
“Easy access to multiple channels that are effortless to use is a non-negotiable requirement for today's consumer. In deploying Pingit, we are offering greater choice by introducing an innovative yet straightforward payment facility to our increasingly mobile customer base,” said Angela Hunter-Dobson, director of customer services for Severn Trent.
“Consumer behaviour is changing when it comes to making payments and Severn Trent is at the forefront in recognising the need to provide their customers with new and innovative mobile solutions. Barclays Pingit provides customers of Severn Trent Water with a quick and easy way to pay their bills that is both safe and secure, and also increases efficiencies for Severn Trent,” said Mike Walters, Head of UK Corporate Payments at Barclays.
