The FINANCIAL — Shanghai OnStar Telematics Co, opened its second call center in the city of Xiamen on Thursday, evidence that China is among the fastest-growing telematics markets in the world.
The OnStar Xiamen Call Center currently has 200 advisors but capacity for an additional 750 more as customer demand increases.
Shanghai OnStar, officially established in October 2009, has nearly 370,000 active customers in China. It achieved a milestone in May when it answered 1 million calls in a single month for the first time.
OnStar advisors at the Xiamen Call Center speak a variety of Chinese dialects allowing them to cater to distinct regions.

Xiamen is the sixth of OnStar’s global call centers with others located in Warren, Mich., Charlotte, N.C., Oshawa, Ontario, Makati, Philippines, and Shanghai. Together, the call centers serve more than 6 million customers and respond to more than 4 million OnStar calls for any of the company’s 45 services each month.

Currently available on more than 40 MY 2011 GM models, OnStar soon will be available for installation on most other vehicles already on the road through local electronics retailers, including Best Buy.
