The FINANCIAL — A consortium headed by Siemens Metals Technologies has received an order from Asturiana de Laminados S.A., Spain, to build an integrated turnkey zinc sheet production plant. From October 2008 onwards, intermediate products are to be manufactured in the new factory.
Siemens is supplying the rolling line and is also responsible for overall project management. The parties to the contract have agreed to maintain confidentiality regarding the actual value of the order.
Among the promoters of the plant are companies of the zinc sector, a financial entity, and the “Government of the Principado de Austurias” through its risk capital society. The new facilities are going to be built in Pola de Lena and are designed for an annual production capacity of around 70,000 metric tons. The production plant will supply zinc sheet with several thicknesses for construction and industrial use.
Siemens Metals Technologies is responsible for overall management of the project as well as for technological integration of all parts of the plant, from the melt, casting and rolling sections to the lines for cutting to width and to length, followed by final strip coating. The integrated plant solution thus to be created is an essential prerequisite for the manufacture of high-quality zinc sheet. Siemens will also supply and install the entire rolling line. The melting furnaces will be provided by GHI Hornos Industriales S.L. of Spain while the coating line will be supplied by the British company, Stein Atkinson Stordy Eng. Ltd.
