The FINANCIAL — The UK’s commitment to Georgia, as an international security partner and regional democratic role model, is unwavering, said British Minister of State for Europe and the Americas at the Foreign and Commonwealth Office, Sir Alan Duncan at the joint press conference with Georgian Foreign Minister Mikheil Janelidze.
Sir Alan Duncan said that his country’s commitment to Georgia as an international security partner is unwavering. The British Minister of State thanked Georgia for participation in the international peacekeeping missions and reaffirmed the UK’s unequivocal support for Georgia’s European and Euro-Atlantic integration.
“Through its democratic credentials, open economy and progressive human rights, Georgia is playing a vital role in the stability and security of the wider region. Georgia’s progression towards Euro-Atlantic integration, both through NATO and the EU, will only serve to build on the progress already made. We are committed to supporting Georgia as it seeks to strengthen democratic institutions, undertake important reforms, and further protect human rights and media freedom. We welcome progress Georgia has made towards achieving visa liberalisation and implementing the EU Association Agreement. The country has realised an impressive set of reforms that will make all of the institutions here stronger and economically stable. Your commitment to enhance security towards integration with NATO is welcomed by all NATO members including the United Kingdom,” the British Minister of State said.
Sir Alan Duncan reaffirmed the UK’s strong support for Georgia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, according to MFA of Georgia.
“I will be visiting the occupation line to see for myself the effect that Russian and South Ossetian border guards’ activity has on local community. There are number of British representatives working in the EU’s monitoring mission, all of them are playing very important role in a wider team. So, together we are helping to ensure stability and security in the region”, the British Minister of State said.
British Minister of State for Europe and the Americas at the Foreign and Commonwealth Office, Alan Duncan is visiting Georgia on 24-25 November in the frames of the Georgian-UK Wardrop Strategic Dialogue. Sir Alan Duncan met the Georgian President, Prime Minister and Foreign Minister; and visited the village of Khurvaleti adjacent to the occupation line.
