The FINANCIAL — At least six people were killed and 15 injured in a suspected terrorist attack in Swat Valley in Pakistan's northwest, the Aaj TV channel reported on February 22 citing police.
According to RIA Novosti, the attack on a military convoy believed to have been staged by a suicide car bomber occurred in Swat's main city, Mingora, the channel reported. Local TV footage showed a car enveloped in flames.
Local reports said two security forces personnel and four civilians were killed.
Pakistani military conducted a major offensive in the valley, formerly a popular tourist destination, last year to retake it from Taliban control. The military said they had largely cleared the area from Islamists after months of fighting. But sporadic clashes and suicide attacks continue to rock the area.
